The introduction of individual student devices has opened new opportunities for the youngest scholars in Wayne Township. These individual devices have provided Wayne Township Preschool teachers Wendy Barnhart and Molly Duncan the ability to utilize creative assessment tools using Jamboard and Google slides to individualize instruction for students. By individualizing these assessments, they are also able to collect data for ISPROUT-KR. Indiana Student Performance Readiness and Observation of Understanding Tool (ISPROUT) is utilized to measure skills in children from infancy to kindergarten.
Each student is able to access individualized instruction and work at their own pace, while the teachers monitor and collect anecdotal data. In this example, students use a Google Jamboard to demonstrate the mechanics of writing, a critical skill for developing learners, by tracing a path on a maze, dragging items to locations, and tracing letters. Molly created other creative tools to help students develop awareness of the alphabet in which students view letters and move items.
These assessments are so important because ISPROUT is utilized for Indiana students receiving services as part of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to meet the reporting needs of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
