Several of the staff members at Westlake used Flipgrid to record read aloud videos to be shared with all Westlake students. The stories chosen featured African American characters and authors, such as I Am Every Good Thing, Chocolate Me, and I Got Rhythm. These stories were shared daily with Westlake students during Black History month.
The Westlake students loved hearing the stories and celebrating Westlake’s African American staff members. Classroom teachers used the videos to help spark discussions and as introductions to their Black History lessons. This was also a great opportunity for the staff to include culturally relevant material and lessons to the students at Westlake.
Thank you to the staff members who provided videos: Dr. Dennisha Murff, Andrew Mitchell, Jeanette Parham, Tara Turner, Shauna Lipscomb, Melony Roberson, MacKayla Craig, Regina Jones, Sakura Mose, Shanea Kelley, Jibrea Perryman, Darnisha Reed, Jennifer McCann-Thomas, and Damon Watts.
