Westlake wrapped up February’s Black History month with a protest parade simulation.
One class from each grade level participated in the parade while the remaining classes watched through Google Meet. Classes marched holding signs and chanting things like “What do we want: A glad nation and a wonderful world,” “We belong,” and “Black lives matter, no justice no peace!” The parade celebrated Black lives, women’s rights, and inclusion and rights for all.

The parade was intended to show students a celebration of democracy, their ability to use their voice, and the importance of speaking up for the rights of all. The students truly enjoyed watching the young activists and their peers marching through the hallways.

The teachers who led their classes through the parade were: Elizabeth West, Desiree Tyson, Jeanette Parham, Amy Hollingsworth, Shauna Lipscomb, Tara Turner, and Keaton Bailey.
