Chauntyl Akin has been teaching in Wayne Township for 16 years. For the last 3 years, she has spent her time creating a caring, passionate, and tech-savvy group of 5th graders at Rhoades Elementary.

While our educational world has shifted to E-Learning, Chauntyl has taken on the challenge in strides. She is constantly reaching out to colleagues for tech tips and teaching herself tech tricks. She is always eager to share new things she has learned with others. Her students are able to easily navigate all of the new digital tools being used in her classroom.

When using digital resources in her classroom, Chauntyl looks for user-friendly and quality tools within the resource that can make learning more engaging. She then introduces new websites, digital tools, and virtual tasks in a way that gets the students engaged and eager to try them out.

Chauntyl has implemented several tools within her classroom in preparation for a full E-Learning experience. She has created fun teacher and student Bitmojis, and her students were able to take pride in their character, as well as feel a sense of belonging in the E-Learning world. Her fun does not stop there! Chauntyl uses and implements a variety of digital tools like PearDeck, JamBoard, Padlet, Quizlet, Google Forms, and the conversion of paper assignments to digital slides to be used virtually.

Although times are changing, Chauntyl is keeping her kids engaged and present with her caring nature, positive social interactions, enthusiasm, and ever-present desire to bring technology to every part of the day. “Students stay engaged, I am constantly learning something new, and we get to go through new experiences as a class,” Chauntyl explained.

Chauntyl is truly embracing the technology world we are living in one new tool at a time.
