Jody Horning is in her 5th year of working in Wayne Township’s Language Assistance Program. She is currently traveling between buildings at Rhoades Elementary and Wayne Preparatory Academy each week to help support English language learners navigate assignments and technology.

During the past two semesters, Jody has focused on learning new technology and digital tools to assist students as they navigate online learning and hybrid learning. A few of Jody’s favorite digital tools that she has discovered and used over the past few months include Loom to create videos, Jamboard to increase student engagement during Google Meets, and Canva for creating flyers.

Along with challenging herself to pursue new educational digital tools, Jody has also challenged and encouraged staff to extend their knowledge of technology by learning new apps, extensions, and digital tools that will engage students during hybrid and online learning. She encourages staff to reach out to “experts” in the building when you are unsure how to use a new program and also encourages everyone to share what they know so other staff members can learn to use the new tools and students can benefit educationally. Jody even tied a school food drive collection into learning new technology! The staff at WPA greatly appreciates Jody’s encouragement to explore new technology ideas over the past year in order to help students succeed during online learning!
